In the early days of my Spiritual search, I came across a website that explained the Seven Universal/Spiritual Principles. (Also called the Seven Hermetic principles). I believe that in my quest for Spiritual answers, I was lead to this information to understand the Truth of All Things.
So what are the Seven Universal Principles? (Also called the Seven Hermetic Principles or Seven Universal Laws). What is “Hermetism” and who were the “Hermeticists”? Hermetism is a set of philosophical and religious beliefs which emerged in late antiquity probably around the 2nd or 3rd centuries and is based on writings attributed to Hermes Trismegistus who is sometimes believed to have been a wise sage and Egyptian priest called “Thoth”. The Greeks knew him as “Hermes”. In general however, the Hermeticists believe in a Supreme Deity or Principle. There is much written on the web regarding Hermes, Hermetism and the Kybalion. The Kybalion are writings based on the Hermetic philosophy written by a person or persons under the pseudonym of “the Three Initiates”. This book claims to be the essence of the teachings of Hermes Trismegistus. In these writings, there are listed the Seven Universal Principal which I have listed in the previous blog.
In the foregoing entries, I will attempt to explain in a simplified manner, what each of these Principals mean. As I mentioned above, there is much information on the web regarding these principals and it is up to each individual to do your own research to get more information. I discuss these principals in a very simplified manner so that those of you who thirst for Truth will have within you a “spark” of understanding that will lead you to want to know more. If you are ready to hear and learn about these arcane matters, you will find that your understanding is quickened and you will experience a resonance from these writings. “When the ears of the student are ready to hear, then cometh the lips to fill them with Wisdom.”–The Kybalion.
“The All is Mind, The Universe is Mental”. This is the first Universal Law and this law dictates that all of creation exists in the Mind of God and by extension, our lives exist in our minds.
No matter what our belief, our race, or where we are, we cannot escape the presence of God. There are many names for God. You may call God, Allah, The Source, The Universal Presence, Divine Energy, etc., but have you heard God being called “The All”? Think of this statement: “All is in The All, and The All is in All”. “The All” or “God” is the Creator and Causation of all things…the micro and macrocosm of everything around us. (S)He is within and without all of his creations and in His Creative aspect, the “Infinite Living Mind” or “All” or “God Consciousness” generates enormous vibratory energy through the effort of His will and manifests all things. Both Atomic and sub atomic particles (matter) exists by these virtues. The Kybalion states that The All (which is the Substantial Reality underlying all the outward manifestations and appearances which we know under the terms of “The Material Universe”. The phenomena of Life, Matter, Energy and in short, all that is apparent to our material senses) is “Spirit” which in itself is unknowable and undefinable, but which may be considered and thought of as an Universal Infinite, Living Mind.
When I first heard this, there was a stirring within me and a resonance which told me that I was on to something. I kept repeating this statement in my head, over and over again and I was struck by the simplicity of it. I understood what it meant and I was in awe of it All. I understood that it told me that “The All”, or God, was in all things which (S)He created. This is much like the painter, sculptor or writer who creates his art piece and is involved, or a part of His/Her creation. “The All” or “God” is not outside of us but within us and nothing escapes this law.
How do we apply this law to our everyday lives? If the Universe is a mental construct of “The All” and we are all extensions of that, we are also mental beings and have the ability to mentally change or create our very existence. It is a “watching” of our thoughts. In a simplified explanation, it is about the power of your positive thinking.
The first question to ask yourself is, “What do I want”? Best results come from being very crystal clear in knowing exactly what it is you desire. At first this may be difficult because for so many people, often people don’t know what they want. Then you many want to make a list of things that you know you DON’T want, then work your way up to what you DO want. Keep working on this list until you have narrowed it down to the exactness of what you do want and when thinking about it, feel the excitement of it and imagine how you will feel when you have this very thing that you want. This should bring a smile to your face. Keep thinking about it and keep feeling excited about it.
Any physical reality has started off as a conscious thought/desire and you can create your perfect day (in your mind) and have it manifest for you in the physical. When have all heard the statement, “mind over matter”. When we concentrate and dwell on something, whether it is good or bad, it will come to pass. The Universe through your thought process MUST respond. It is the Law.
Until next time, “Know Thyself”.
